The crack of the dawn, the time where roosters would be signing their song of awaking if one where in the country… But here in the city, there was just the hustle and urgency of movements. The sky had just started to turn from dark to light, the rainbow of colors as the sun rose. It was one of those mornings where the farmer’s market was in town, closing off a small part of one of the parking lots in the strip mall.
The vendor’s just finishing sitting up their stalls with all kind of wares to sell. From homemade foods and goods to farm fresh veggies and harvested meats… The kind of thing a any cook could not pass the chance up on. Thus the reason the silver hair male was here this early in the morning. Lucan was leaned back against his Outback, the one thing he didn’t buy himself but was given to him. The car was deep green. The car seemed to be almost smiling as it sat there on the edge of the parking lot away from everything.
The car was a reminder of something he lost, something he didn’t want to speak about. His purple blue eyes glanced around the tiny crowd that had started to make their way through the market as he took a sip of the tea from the travel cup. After a moment, he sat the cup down on top of his car before pulling out a list from the pocket of his pants, glancing over it before tucking it away. He picked up the duffle bag from his car and swung the strap across his shoulder.
Once he picked up his cup, he headed towards the market. Hoping to pick up what he was looking for that he couldn't find in normal markets. Let alone a lot more flavorful and fresher. Lucan started off towards where the meat vendors were. Looking over the smoked goods, taking a moment to talk to one of the vendors about a larger order of meats for his restaurant and after agreeing on an arrangement, he paid for some of the smoked sausages. About ten pounds, just enough for the class… after paying for it, he placed the wrapped package into his bag before moving along.
Paying more attention to the goods in the market than when he was walking… There was so much there and he was wanting to get the best for his money. And that soon came back to bite him, when he bumped into someone. Luckily without spilling any of his tea as the cup was closed off. ”I’m so sorry.” He spoke with a Norwegian accent, as he turned to look who or what he bumped into.

The only reason he would ever be up so early in the morning was because he had not slept the night before. He typically slept as soon as he returned home from work, usually between four and five in the morning. However, he had to stay a little later than he would have liked to clean the bar. A particularly rowdy customer refused to leave, even after they had been cut off half an hour before closing time. He had to wash his hands three times to make sure he thoroughly cleaned them afterwards. Band-aids wrapped around his fingers after rushing to clean up broken glass without a second thought about grabbing a towel or gloves. It was safe to say that it had not been his night. Morning. Whatever. Xiaobai leisurely strolled through the market with his bandaged hands shoved into the pockets of his jacket. A plastic bag with a few vegetables inside hung from around his left wrist. It bounced and rustled with every step he took. Normally he had one of those reusable fabric bags with him whenever he went grocery shopping, but last minute shopping right after work had not been on his schedule. He only remembered he needed today's soup halfway home. Perhaps he should have gotten more than enough for just soup, but he planned on making it last him the rest of the week. Dark eyes flitted around the market, idly seeking out anything he may want to impulse buy. Maybe it would be good to grab some fruit for a snack, or maybe even some eggs for brunch later. Or, maybe, he could watch where he was going. That thought came too late as his shoulder collided with someone else. Quickly taking a step back, wide eyes turned up to see who he had ran into. " Oh, no, no, no--" a sheepish smile pulled at his lips as his right hand slipped out of his pocket to rub at the back of his neck. The motion was uncomfortable as bandages rubbed against his skin, and his jaw tightened as he tried to ignore the sting in his fingertips. " I'm as much at fault. Sorry 'bout that." Purplish blue eyes studied the long hair male before him, making quick note of the bandage fingers as the other rubbed his neck at they had bumped into each other. Crowds were not his thing, not because of events like this but he just was not one to be around a lot of people. Being an top actor made it hard to blend in and not get swarmed by people wanting to ask him a million things or get his photo. Today he had worms ball cap and his glasses (normally he would wear contacts while working). He had on a simple blue tee shirt under his leather jacket and blue jeans. Far from his dress shirt and sports jacket he wore during interviews.
”No need to be sorry, mate” Lucan could do everything to change who he was but that Norwegian accent was hard to cover up. Even with the melting pot on the island, it stood out. He looked down at his tea, thankful for the no spill lid. ”Crowds… I hate them but getting here early is the only choice as the market closes by noon. Too many goodies to gather to avoid this place. Look, let me buy you some breakfast to make up for running into you. There is a stand that breakfast sandwiches with everything made on their farm including the meat.”
Lucan was actually on his way over there to grab a few things including some buffalo jerky. He took a sip of his tea and shifted the bag on his shoulder as he looked around again at the crowd. So glad that he was able to blend in today, fans as much as he appreciate them, they drove him crazy. ”Maybe we can find you a lucky charm while we are it. Those bandages on your fingers are sure to have a story.” He flashed a soft smile and nodded his head towards the direction of the stand before slowly walking towards it.
Not even sure if his run in company would follow or not, let along have anything to stay. Lucan normally didn’t talk to much because of how much he did during days he worked but he was trying to be friendly. As he walked, he looked at the various stands that had everything from crafts to veggies. A few stands outside the market were selling small pets like rabbits, hamster and aquarium plants. Pretty Much a little of everything which made this a fun market to visit. ” I’m Lucan by the way, most call me Luke because it’s easier.”

Mate. That was not a word he was accustomed to hearing, though that may be due to the fact he typically hangs around two types of people: drunks and children. As horrible as it probably sounded, work ate up his entire social circle. Maybe he should... Get out more. Meet new people. Accidentally running into someone was a terrible way of expanding his social circle, and his first impression might as well scream, hey, I'm clumsy! He wasn't, he swore. Only when he was tired and off his game. Like right now. What a deflating thought. " Oh, does it?" He blinked as his smile fell, replaced by astonishment and innocent curiosity. " Guess that explains why I rarely see it," his lips pressed together in thought as dark eyes swept to the bustling crowd around him. He normally returned home before the market could wake up, and he slept right through its business hours. Maybe he should take this opportunity to do a little more shopping. Xiaobai's attention snapped back to the stranger the moment breakfast was mentioned. No, that was not a food motivated reaction (okay, only a little bit of a food motivated reaction). Rather, it came out of no where. He figured this little encounter would end with okay bye and they would part ways. Instead, he was suddenly being offered food. As someone who was struggling to pay the bills while working two jobs, he knew to never turn down a free meal. With a quick shake of his head to rid himself of his momentary stupor, displacing long locks of black hair, he started after the other man. Xiaobai's steps briefly faltered as his sheepish grin lifted to his lips again at the mention of his fingers. He tried to discretely hide his hand by shoving it back into his pocket. " Eheh... Just a work accident..." His words were soft on his lips, mumbling in response as he averted his gaze. Yet his eyes quickly returned, not wanting to lose track of his free meal-- er, the other man. Such a task was easier said than done. They just had to stroll past a vendor with live animals! Xiaobai's pace slowed as dark eyes turned toward the rabbits on display. He had always wanted one, though three animals was more than he could handle on his own sometimes. Adding a sensitive rabbit to the mix may cause chaos while he is away for work. He hadn't realized he stopped until he turned and noticed the distance that grew between him and the stranger. He was quick to rectify that, striding forward with a brisk pace, only to slow back down the moment he could hear his voice. Lucan? Luke? " Luke may be 'easier', but Luca is cuter. Hm... Lucan is a nice name, too..." Once more, his hand escaped the confines of his jacket pocket and reached up to tap a bandage against his lips in thought. " Ah!" The finger moved away, resting beneath his lips while his other fingers curled beneath his chin. " I'm Xiaobai," his voice dipped and bounced up, fluctuating with each syllable of his name. " Don't know of any easy nicknames for that, but some kids call me XiaXia." And some persistent customers at work. TAG: Lucan Tashiro

In front of the cameras, interviewers Lucan tended to stay to the formal Japanese terms that seemed to dominate the island. It helped the the spent many of years in Japan to know and understand the way of the Japanese people. That was the only time in his life that he was actually in one place longer than a few months well aside from the time he was lost. Five years living and surviving in the forest, no human interaction until his final week there. It was not planned or something he had wished for. Just a bad twist of fate. It had taken a long time to become a part of society after that and the reason why he struggled with crowds.
When he was out and about like this however, he stuck with a more relaxed way of talking and didn’t hide his accent as much. Made it easier for him to hide that he was someone famous. He was thankful that this morning he had gone unnoticed even by the person he bumped into. Glad he could just be someone average for once. ”Old traditions and allows the farmers to get back while there is daylight to tend to whatever afternoon or evening chorus they have while there is still daylight. “ He only knew a little about that way of life from what he learned from the years coming to markets like this.
That was the kind of person Lucan was, he would give the shirt off his back to someone if they needed it. Food was always something welcomed and something people could share most of the time with no issues. He was being the generous guy that he was that and he was feeling hungry himself. His purple blue eyes could see that the man before he was tired looking and he wasn’t sure why so he figured something in the stomach might be good way to go. Though he was expecting to be turned down, he didn’t get many offers for people spent time with him unless they figured out who he was.
”Sorry to hear that. Hopefully it’s not that bad and you’ll have a better day at work the next time you have to go in.” Lucan glanced back for s moment wondering what the other did that resulted in his hand looking that. So many bandaids…
Lucan had noticed that he lost his new found company but luckily the stand was right on the other side of the rabbits so he stood there in sight and waited. He glanced over the selection of meats in the cold case. The sound of skillets sizzling and small deep fryer going seemed to stand out from the other sides. He offered a small soft smile at the words about his name where given when his company rejoined him. ”I’m not sure Luca fits me but I’ll let you call me that. I’m surprised my fans haven’t come up with one yet we’ll that I know of.” He brought a hand up and rubbed at the back of his neck a little before he moved up to the counter.
He placed an order for two breakfast… a sandwich made on farm bread, a white loaf of bread that was thicker than the normal slice. It came with slice of scrambled eggs that were cooking in a square skillet. Fresh back bacon better know as Irish or Canadian bacon. Farm cheese which was a mild semi hard cheese. Fresh ground sausage links on the side, hash-browns and fresh mixed fruit. There was lemonade that came along with the meal. ”It’s a pleasure to meet you Xia. Quite the interesting name” He pulled out his wallet and paid for the meal. Before looking over the meats again, he made a note of what he wanted to order after they ate. This was his last stop for market shopping.
Lucan grabbed their tray a few moments later, the helping of food was nothing short and more than generous. He gave a nod of his head towards a set of tables that only had a few people around. Once over there, he placed the tray down as he took a seat. ”I hope your hungry.” He took the plates off, sitting on down on the other side of the table and on in front of him.

" Oh-ho~ you have fans?" He leaned forward with a mischievous smirk playing on his lips. Had he somehow managed to stumble upon someone with a following? A social media influencer? A rising idol? A Youtube personality? The possibilities were endless, especially in this day and age. The sheer fact that Xiaobai could not place his name or face to anyone even remotely famous was because, well, he never bothered with things like that. He had too much going on to care about knowing the name of whoever played a superhero in the lastest movie adaptation of a comic or look into the information on some SoundCloud artist. Just as quickly as he had teasingly inquired on what may have been a slip of the tongue, he dropped it, leaning back as his smirk slipped back into his usual smile. " Luke doesn't suit you, either, in my opinion. There's a million other Luke's in the world, but how many do you know called Luca?" With a shrug, he let his hand drop from his chin to hand loosely at his side. Xiaobai stepped around Lucan so he could eyeball the stall they were now at. He would have to be wise about not impulse buying, especially now that someone diverted him from his normal routine. He could easily spend half of his paycheck on meat alone. " Means little white in Chinese," he mumbled, half paying attention in his search for reasonably priced meat that would not burn too much of a hole in his wallet. He quickly turned away the moment he realized he should not buy anything that needed to be kept cold, not when he had to walk back to his home. He could get something frozen at the convenience store later. Rocking back and forth on the heels of his feet, Xiaobai continued looking around the market and took more to people watching rather than getting himself lost in things he wanted to buy. He glanced back and ceased his rocking just as Lucan was given a tray of food. Whatever he ordered seemed a bit like overkill to him; there was enough food to be considered a sit-down meal. He was expecting something he could grab and go, not... Well, this.Despite his reservations, Xiaobai followed Lucan to a nearby table. He took his place across the table from his free meal ticket-- er, Lucan. " Is it too early to ask for a to-go box?" Pulling his left hand out of his jacket for the first time, revealing even more bandaids, he let the bag of vegetables slip from his wrist and onto the seat next to him. It would provide a buffer in case anyone else tried to sit around them, and it kept his groceries off the ground. " Gotta say, Luca, you sure know how to treat a man," Xiaobai let out a soft chuckle as he reached out to grab one of the sausages, ignoring the grease that would stain the bandaids on his fingers. Eating was more important; he could change the bandages when he got home. If he got home. There was enough food that he might pass out on the way there. TAG: Lucan Tashiro

”You have no idea” He laughed lightly and shook his head slightly. Being one of the top actors meant that everyone from producers to house wives wanted him. Luckily his writing he was able to hide behind a fake name so no one knew of the real him with that. Today he was glad to have gone unnoticed so far and been able to have a peaceful start to the day. ”Acting, I get to be whoever I want for a short while but lots of draw backs. Being good at what I do and being at the top, it’s not often I am able to get out like this.” Lucan was an average guy who wanted nothing to do more than lay around in pjs or on just resting on some beach. When he was working it was a different ball game.
He paused for a moment as he pondered the words and questions before him. He glanced up at the sky watching the fluffy clouds for a second before looking at his raven haired companion. ”So far you are the only one to call me Luca. Everyone sticks with something formal and masculine when they address me. First time I even thought about that as a short version of my name. I do like the sounds of it though. It’s of Irish background and means light.”
Lucan looked down at the meal, it was more than he would be able to eat but thankfully someone was kind enough to invent to go containers. ”Farm style meal, always a hearty helping of comforting foods. Also some of the best tasting too, no preservatives or added flavoring.” Lucan loved this kind of food over fast food then again he never had fast food before. It wasn’t something he would admit to though. Home cooking was his favorite pass time, anytime he had to cook he couldn’t be happier.
There was a shake of his head with a chuckle. ”Not at all, I’ll go up in a second and get us some containers.” He watched as the bag of veggies came to rest on the table and took noticed of the bandages on the other hand. Wondering what the hell happened… did the other man get in a fight with a shredder or something like that. He didn’t want to make the other person uncomfortable so he just picked up the sandwich and took a bite out of it. He smiled as he chewed his food and after he swallowed, he took a sip of his lemonade. ”Thank you. I just like to make sure those around me are taken care of. Besides food is an amazing thing. A simple good cooked meal like this could change someone’s day. I know what it is to go without so I try to help out when I am able to.”
His family was far from poor, his mother was of royalty and his father he wasn’t sure of, he didn’t know that man at all. He had turned away from everything family was as he was just something to be forgotten about. ”If you get too full and unable to walk, I can give you a ride home.” Thankful that he had drove the Subaru here and not his sports car. It wasn’t uncommon for him to do stuff like this at all. He sat there for a few moments eating his sandwich watching the crowd move around. He couldn’t remember the last time he sat down and ate a meal with someone. Normally his meals were whatever he could grab at the last minute. He had just filming the last episode of the season of the tv series he was the lead actor on. ”So mister little white, so does the one who done that do look worse? I surly hope so.”

Huh. He may see people from all walks of life when working at a bar, but never has he met an actor before. Or, rather, one who allegedly already reached enough popularity to have his own fans and be considered at the top. Did he also have an overprotective fan club? There was that small part of him that was curious enough to consider searching up Lucan actor later just to see what he was in, though he knew he would never do it. He drew a fine line between the faces seen on television and their personal lives. Besides, this was likely one of those once in a lifetime chance encounters. He may just be another face in the crowd come tomorrow. Everyone always was. " Actor and an onomatologist? Color me impressed." He had only taken a letter off his name, and of course it had a meaning somewhere in the world. He supposed he should not be too surprised. Almost anything could be a name these days. " Say, if they stick to 'formal and masculine', does that include your adoring fans?" It was hard to keep the grin that curled on his lips. " Fans 'round these parts usually take even the most imposing name and make it cute. Ne, Luca-sama? Luca-chan? Lu-chan! Oh, that would be cute, too." He may be Chinese, but he has spent way too much time in Japan. He could hear all too clearly the voice of one of his students, gushing over some idol's music, only to whine when she had to practice Beethoven. Xiaobai silenced himself with the sausage he had picked up, chewing thoroughly as his gaze turned downward to figure out what he would stuff his face with next. He wanted to hold off on the egg and bacon sandwich, primarily because he knew he would not try the rest of the food if he let that sit in his stomach. He needed to at least pretend like he had self-restraint and table manners. Hash browns. My next victim. He decided as he swallowed. Before he could grab anything else, he paused and glanced up at Lucan. He knew what it was like to go without? " That sounds like a loaded statement," he hummed, though he made no further comment, opting instead for taking a bite of his hash browns. Shredded and fried potatoes, one of the best inventions America gave to the world, in his opinion. He chewed slowly, but even that could not prevent him from choking after Lucan suddenly offered him a ride. He turned his face away, pounding on his chest until he was able to swallow. Xiaobai took a quick drink, lifting the other hand to wave it dismissively in the air until he could speak. " No, no, no-- I couldn't impose more than I likely am. Walking off a heavy meal would do me good." He had one of the slimmest waists on a man around, and he had dogs to 'walk off a heavy meal' with. It was just an excuse. A poor one. Fruit. Fruit would not play foul and betray him by lodging in his throat. Xiaobai set his sights on the side of mixed fruit, and this time he was able to get through a bite without choking. Dark eyes glanced down at one of his hands as their state was brought up. " Ah, no," he stated rather anticlimactically. " I'd be the one disfigured in an actual fight." He was a wimp; he'll admit it. Besides, he was not allowed to touch the customers. That was security's job. " Just a lot of broken glass. Safety training goes out the window at four in the morning." He inspected his hand for a moment longer, briefly wondering if he had gotten all the smaller shards of glass out. He sure hoped so. Shrugging off his brief concern, the very hand he had been looking at reached for more fruit and brought it up to his lips. TAG: Lucan Tashiro
